The parties are also approaching prominent people and elders of different communities to win their support. As a result, former nazim of Shahpur Jehanian union council Khalid Arain, some other prominent figures and people belonging to Lashari and other communities have joined the PPP.

The Muttahida has held several meetings in different union council of the city and adjoining towns.

Pakistan Muslim League-N leaders Syed Ghous Ali Shah and Mamnoon Hussain have recently visited Nawabshah where they addressed a public meeting.

Former chairman of the Bolan district council Sardarzada Sher Mohammed Rind and other known members of the Rind tried joined the PML-N during the visit of party leaders.

JI general secretary Liaquat Baloch also visited Nawabshah couple of days ago and directed local party leadership to reorganise the party and motivate people to vote for JI candidates.

Meanwhile, the process of obtaining computerized national identity cards (of their voters) has been expedited by major political parties so that they could get maximum number of votes in the elections.

Shaheed Benazirabad district (formerly Nawabshah) has been a stronghold of the PPP which had won maximum seats, including that of the district nazim, in the local bodies' elections of 2001 and 2005 and swept all the five seats of national and provincial assemblies in the general elections of 2002 and 2008.

SEAT ADJUSTMENT PPP MNA Faryal Talpur has said that negotiations with the Muttahida and other coalition partners for seat adjustment in the local government elections are underway.

She said that amendments to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance were being negotiated with the coalition partners.

Talking to journalists at Zardari House here on Wednesday, she said that negotiations were underway with coalition partners, including the Muttahida, for removal of flaws in the ordinance. The amended ordinance would be presented in the Sindh Assembly for approval soon, she added.

She said that the PPP was following the policy of reconciliation based upon the vision of Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Ms Faryal said that a number of projects -- including those of Mehrabpur-Sann bridge, cadet college, university, serology laboratory, agricultural research station, Sakrand dual carriageway and water filter - had been given to Shaheed Benazirabad district in a short span of time.

She said that people involved in wood chopping were enemies of environment and urged the authorities concerned to take strict legal action against them without any discrimination.

She said that the district administration was searching for 40 acres of land to shift the district jail of Nawabshah from the city. However, she said, the plan was being delayed due to increasing value of agricultural land.

She directed the district police officer to shift transport stands outside the city and revise the traffic plan so that the people may not suffer frequent traffic jams.

She directed the district administrator to remove encroachments from the city and adjoining towns without any delay.

On the occasion, Syed Munir Shah, former chairman of the District Accounts Committee, announced that he had joined the PPP.
