Angry customer smashes ATM

ISLAMABAD, May 9 A customer of a commercial bank on Saturday allegedly damaged automated teller machine (ATM) out of rage after finding it out of order.

An operational manager of a bank lodged a complaint with the Kohsar police stating that a man damaged the bank's ATM machine, installed at its Super Market branch.

The police registered a case under section 380, 427 and 511 of PPC punishable with imprisonment for life or for a shorter term. The police started investigation and identified the accused from his ATM card found stuck in the machine, police said.

However, the sources close to investigation told Dawn that according to video footage a man approached the ATM machine and entered his card to withdraw the money, but remained unsuccessful.

Later his two other attempts were also remained unsuccessful and his card was stuck in the machine, which drove him in anger. As a result he brought one of spanner from his vehicle and broke the ATM screen.

While leaving from the spot he also broke the glass door of a cell in which the ATM was installed.

The ATM machines installed by the various banks usually fail to provide services making the customers to return empty-handed. On a number of occasions, the ATM machines are found out of order due to various reasons.
