MARDAN, April 15: Councillors of Mardan tehsil have accused the council Nazim of misappropriation of funds.

They claimed that Malik Shaukat Khan, elected for an interim period of 120 days, drew funds against fake fuel consumption.

Councillor Javed Khan said the acting Nazim was allowed to use 120 litre fuel in 30 days, instead he claimed Rs16,000 in March and Rs14,000 in February.

The councillors alleged that the Nazim awarded contracts worth Rs09 million to various contractors on six per cent commission.

They said it was decided at a house meeting to give at least two petty works of Rs20,000 to each union council, but the Nazim on the contrary misused the funds.

The councillors claimed that it was also decided at a meeting that at least 25 tube rods would be given to every member but the Nazim favoured his near and dear ones.

Women councillors, who have formed the Women Elected Political Forum (WEPF), also blamed the council Nazim for ignoring their demands and that he did not let women to express their views during meetings.

Chairperson of the WEPF, Rozina Bibi, said that the Nazim allocated Rs100,000 fund for the purchase of new computers for women councillors but we were provided with second-hand computers, which have gone out of order now.
