Published December 28, 2009

SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 27 The second death anniversary of Pakistan People's Party chairperson and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was marked across Punjab on Sunday.

Ms Bhutto was murdered in a gun and bomb attack after a political meeting at Rawalpindi's Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27, 2007.

In Sheikhupura, a function in connection with the death anniversary was held at the house of PPP activist Abdul Khaliq Aziz. Local party activists and officials attended the function.

At the function, PPP activists raised questions about the willingness of the party leadership to unmask Ms Bhutto's murderers. They said the slain leader's murderer would not be unmasked ever like Murtaza Bhutto's killers if the incumbent government failed to do its duty in this regard.

In Okara, an anniversary function was held at the party's district office. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that individuals, parties and groups who were trying to oust President Asif Ali Zardari through propaganda would never succeed because party workers and people were with him.

State Minister for Information Syed Sumsam Ali Bokhari, MNA Chaudhry Sajjadul Hasan, Mian Khurram Jahangir Wattoo, former MPA Arif Chaudhry, Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat's Sahibzada Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-i-Islami's Sheikh Azhar Mehmood and Dr Liaquat Ali also attended the function. PPP City President Alam Sher Lodhi criticised a private TV channel for its propaganda against the PPP.

PPP activists Abdul Sattar, Muhammad Azam Khan and Abdul Jabbar arranged separate anniversary functions.

In Toba Tek Singh, the local chapter of the PPP arranged a function at its office in Timber Market to mark the second death anniversary of Ms Bhutto.

Punjab Women Development Minister Neelum Jabbar, who was chief guest at the function, said Ms Bhutto gave her life for democracy.
