SIALKOT, Aug 27 Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Maj Mubashar (retired) says Rescue 1122 officials showed negligence in the lynching of two brothers in Sialkot on Aug 15.

Maj Mubashar is the member of a team investigating a departmental inquiry into the murder of Mughees Butt and Muneeb Butt who were lynched by a mob in Buttar in Sialkot. The mobsters allege the youths had committed a robbery and a murder in the village. Up to 14 police officials and over three dozen villagers were booked in the case.

Maj Mubashar said some villagers had handed over Mughees and Muneeb to Rescue 1122 officials on Daska Road. He said had rescuers immediately shifted them to hospital, the two brothers would have been saved from street justice.

He said 42 people's statements had been recorded, and very soon the investigation report would be submitted to the anti-terrorism court.

Also, Punjab CID Additional IG Mushtaq Sukhera, head of a joint investigation team probing the incident, said a good part of the probe had been completed.

On Friday, the police claimed to have arrested five constables nominated in the FIR. The police, however, did not disclose the names of these arrested suspects. These officials face negligence charges as they did not take any action to save the youths, who were lynched to death and later their bodies were paraded on streets.
