Chinese team visits Sukkur Barrage

SUKKUR, Sept 1 A delegation of Chinese investors on Tuesday visited Sukkur barrage and its off-taking Rohri Canal in connection with establishing a small hydel power generation unit.

The delegation, led by Mr Tangxianping, took round of the barrage and its off-taking canals. The team members also visited Rohri Canal and especially went to Tando Masti fall and other regulators where, according to sources, the delegation showed interest in establishing a small hydel power generation unit.

Sources said that on this occasion, the interpreter of the Chinese team told the irrigation officials that the delegation was impressed with the Asias largest irrigation system and termed it an asset for the government and people of Pakistan.

They said that Pakistan was blessed with natural resources and the country and its people could get more benefit of it by its proper utilisation.

Sources said that the visit of Chinese delegation was in connection with the Friends of Pakistan Programme, which is aimed at attracting foreign investment.

Chief Engineer, Sukkur Barrage, Mohammad Haroon Memon; Chief Engineer, Guddu Barrage, Zafarullah Mahar; superintendent engineer, Khairpur irrigation circle, Khalid Ahmad Larik and executive engineer, Sukkur Barrage, Zareef Khero, briefed the Chinese delegation.
