ISLAMABAD, June 22 The Islamabad High Court has summoned former president Pervez Musharraf and former prime minister Shaukat Aziz on a suit for damages filed by a former ISI operative.

Advocate Khawaja Azhar Rasheed told Dawn that Justice Mohammad Munir Paracha of the IHC on Monday directed Gen (retd) Musharraf, Mr Aziz, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and Interior Secretary Kamal Shah to appear in the court on July 2 and submit their replies.

Former Inter-Services Intelligence official Khalid Khwaja has sought a compensation of Rs700 million for his alleged kidnapping and illegal confinement in 2007 and registration of “false and mala fide” cases against him.

According to the plaintiff, nothing incriminating had been proven against him.

He said he had been detained on the orders of Mr Musharraf and other former government functionaries were responsible for the misery he had undergone for “crimes which I did not commit”.

The lawyer of the plaintiff said most of the respondents had relinquished their offices and they should be summoned in their personal capacity for causing damage and financial loss to him.
