Ex-senator, wife shot dead in Haripur

HARIPUR, Dec 18 Former senator Akhtar Nawaz Khan was shot dead along with his wife and gunman in the Darwesh village here on Friday morning.

Police quoted Najaf Nawaz, the elder son of the slain politician, as saying that some unknown people killed his parents and their gunman.

Mr Najaf told police that his servants had informed him that the bodies of his father Akhtar Nawaz, mother Sardar Akhter Bibi, and guard Khan Afsar were lying in the bedroom of his parents.

He did not nominate anyone in the triple murder.

Akhtar Nawaz, who is a stepbrother of former NWFP Assembly speaker Habibullah Khan, remained senator from 1985 to 1988.

He was the father-in-law of former MNA from Gujrat, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain.
