Federal Shariat Court not working

ISLAMABAD, April 13: The Federal Shariat Court has not been functioning for last many months after the retirement of Chief Justice Fazal Ellahi Khan.

Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Yousaf has been named as Acting Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court but other judges for the court have not been nominated.

Informed sources told Dawn that the law ministry was delaying the matter as top officials of the ministry wanted their man to be appointed as a judge of the FSC but judicial functionaries were not agreeing to their nominee.

The sources further said that Adviser to Prime Minister on Law Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada had recently written to the prime minister for appointment of Justice Ijaz Yousaf, as permanent Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court.
