LAHORE, April 13: The Pakistan Awami Tehrik on Sunday staged a protest demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club against the Anglo-American occupation of Baghdad.
Party workers were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against American atrocities in Iraq.
Speaking to them, PAT spokesman G M Malik said the Ummat was facing a devilish situation because of disunity among its ranks. It was alarming that Muslims countries were falling prey to oppressive world powers one by one as Muslim leaders were afraid of the US annoyance.
Deploring the UN and OIC role during the Iraq crisis, he termed it shameful and urged the Ummat to unite for the sake of its survival.
Meanwhile, party chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has demanded that the coalition forces should immediately vacate Iraq and allow installation of a government representative of the people of Iraq.
Talking to reporters after his return from abroad here on Sunday, he said the Arab League had to play its constructive role in the wake of anarchy and chaos in Iraq.
Lamenting rifts among Muslim countries, he said this attitude was self-destructive and would serve no purpose. He urged Muslim leaders to realize the need of the time and take steps for protecting their sovereignty and integrity.
