TAXILA, April 13: Three persons were killed, while six others sustained injuries in a road accident on the GT Road near the Margalla Hills.
According to the National Highway and Motorway Police, the driver of a passenger van (FDQ-9126), destined for Khan Pur, lost control over the vehicle and the van collided with a parked truck. As a result, three persons were killed on the spot, while six others were injured, the police said.
Sources said two of the injured were shifted to District Headquarters hospital, Rawalpindi, where they were said to be in a critical condition.
The sources said those who had been killed were: Abid Hussain Shah, Arshad Mehmood, and Tariq Mehmood. Meanwhile, the names of the injured are: Gul Faraz, Imtiaz, Sajawal, Arif, Wasif and Azhar.
TEXTBOOKS: Textbooks of various classes are not available in the market despite commencement of new academic year owing to the negligence of the Punjab Textbook Board and National Book Foundation.
Students of different classes told this correspondent that the textbooks of mathematics and science for class VII were not available in the markets.
The students of class II to VI said social studies, Urdu, mathematics and science textbooks were not available even in Wah Cantt and Hassanabdal.
The unavailability of textbooks are causing inconvenience to the students as well as their parents as they run from one book shop to other in search of the newly introduced textbooks.
Various parent-teacher organizations, students bodies and teachers unions have asked the Punjab Textbook Board and National Book Foundation to look into the matter and adopt special measures to make these books available in the markets.
