LARKANA Ghinwa Bhutto, chairperson of PPP-SB, has alleged that activists of the SPSF, the student wing of the ruling PPP, opened fire at her vehicle and those of her supporters near the new bus terminal here on Sunday while she was returning from Khosa village after distributing relief goods.

Addressing a press conference at Al Murtaza House, she accused President Asif Zardari, MNA Faryal Talpur and agencies of being behind the attack.

However, the local people said that an incident of firing in the air had taken place at the bus terminal near a relief camp of the SPSF.

Ghinwa Bhutto alleged that some SPSF activists and five other people started chasing her convoy in three cars when she left Al Murtaza house for Khosa village.

“While we were returning from the village, we were again intercepted at the bus terminal where my cavalcade was fired at.” She said that a scuffle took place between workers of the two factions of the SPSF after her convoy had been stopped at the bus terminal.

When asked whether the incident was one of firing in the air, she said “I don't know but it was firing.”

Ghinwa Bhutto said that Zulfikar Bhutto Junior was not with her when the incident took place.

She said when PPP-SB workers went to the Waleed police station, the police refused to register the FIR. A scuffle took place again at the police station between workers of the two factions of the SPSF.

Later, SPSF-SB activists fired in the air and forced the shopkeepers to close their shops.

At a press conference, Sindh Law Minister and president of the Larkana district chapter of the PPP, rejected Ghinwa Bhutto's remarks and said that neither Ghinwa Bhutto nor Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Junior were in the area where the activists of SPSF (SB) had manhandled their workers.

The minister accused SPSF-SB workers of beating PPP workers and smashing the windscreen and windows of the car of SPSF leader Sohrab Marri, accusing him of failing to clear way for the vehicle of Ghinwa Bhutto.

Terming the incident a conspiracy against the PPP, he said “We respect Ghinwa Bhutto but whenever she comes to Larkana she creates problems.” He accused SPSF-SB workers of provoking PPP activists. DPO Irfan Baloch said that there was no incident of firing at Ghinwa Bhutto's vehicle. He said that it was an incident of a clash between activists of the two student organisations after an activist of the SPSF-SB fired in the air.

The DPO said that SPSF workers had fired in the air outside the Waleed police station.

He said that SPSF-SB workers Lalo Surhiyo, Haidar Sammo and Sardar Jagirani had been detained.
