2 die in Rajanagar police firing

NEW DELHI, April 12: Two people were killed and 71 others injured in communal clashes after police opened fire on mobs in the eastern Indian state of Orissa during a procession.

A police official said the trouble started in the industrial town of Rajgangpur.

Police said unidentified people threw stones at the procession as it was passing through a sensitive neighbourhood.

Describing the situation as “tense”, the police official said seven platoons had been rushed to the area. —dpa
