MULTAN, Feb 10 An Italian consultant continued working on the walled city on the second consecutive day here on Wednesday to prepare the PC-II of a 'Walled City Project' being done with the help the Italian government.

The Italian government has allocated $10 million for the renovation and restoration of historical buildings in Multan.

Consultant Daniele Beacco said the walled city was itself a museum and had potential to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

Dr Javed Siddiqi, a member of the project committee, said Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had asked his Italian counterpart to provide consultancy to preserve the historical status of Multan along the pattren of the renovation of Rome city.

He said Italy not only promised consultancy but also announced $10 million for the project.

He said the project included the restoration of the walled city, historical buildings, shrines, mosques and temples and six ancient gates.

He said after the renovation of the buildings of walled city, the government would introduce legislation to protect such establishments. He said the blue print of the project would be handed over to the Italian government on Feb 22. —Staff Correspondent
