KHAIRPUR, Sept 3 Residents of eight talukas of the district are braving the worst kind of electricity breakdown for last two days. The city of Khairpur plunged into darkness during the whole night on Thursday. Sepco had , however, been gracious enough to restore power supply for only 15 minutes after each two hours since Thursday evening. The entire city lived without electricity before and after Iftar during this period. Same was the scenario at Sehri time.

According to Sepco sources, the Mirpur Mathelo-based Liberty Power Plant had developed a technical fault due to which they had hooked up the system with Dadu circuit through Naushahro Feroze but Dadu power circuit had been unable to sustain he load. According to sources, Sepco officials had been misguiding the people by saying that power plant would be repaired soon which turned out to be an eyewash.

According to sources, people of Ghotki and Naushahro Feroze districts were also facing a similar situation.

Traders of Khairpur are running their business through generators and the smoke and noise emitting out of these generators had been adding to miseries of people, particularly patients and senior citizens.

Due to climatic change, a heat wave similar to that of June-and July was persisting in the month of September.

Domestic life, trade activities and educational institutions were affected due to the long outages.

Repeated attempts to contact the concerned high-ups of Sepco to get their version remained futile till our going to Press.
