ABBOTTABAD, June 6 The chief justice of Peshawar High Court, Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, has said that appointments of judges at lower court will be made through the high court in future.

Currently these appointments are made by the Provincial Public Service Commission.

The Peshawar High Court chief justice was addressing the annual dinner arranged by Abbottabad District Bar Association as a chief guest here on Saturday.

Justice Miftahuddin, Justice Samad Khan, Justice Attaullah Khan, the district and sessions judge and other judges of lower courts, district bar office-bearers from Haripur and Mansehra were also present on the occasion.

Justice Khan said that efforts were underway to remove the shortcomings in the judicial policy to provide speedy justice to the people. He said that the judicial reforms council was holding a series of meetings in all the provinces.

The next meeting of the council was scheduled to be held in Quetta, he added.

“We do not want 'hurried and buried' decisions but we also do not want 'justice delayed, justice denied' label,” he said.

Justice Khan said that basic aim and motive behind the judicial reforms was the delivery of justice. He lauded the role of lawyers in the restoration of judiciary but said that their task had not been over.

Now they had to lead and guide the nation and the country in the right direction with brighter vision and high order values, he said.

Earlier, Abbottabad District Bar Association president Tahir Faraz Abbasi in his address said that all the courts should be brought on single premises.

He said that currently courts were located in different parts of the city which caused problems for the lawyers.
