ISLAMABAD, April 28 The army has appointed Lt-Gen Khalid Nawaz and Lt-Gen Jameel Haider as corps commanders of Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, respectively.

Before the new assignment, Lt-Gen Nawaz was working as Commandant of the Staff College Rawalpindi and Lt-Gen Haider as Inspector General of Arms at the General Headquarters.

Sources told Dawn on Wednesday that Gujranwala Corps Commander Lt-Gen Nadeem Taj, who previously served as Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), had been posted as Adjutant General at the GHQ.

They said that Lt-Gen Haroon Aslam would soon assume the charge of Deputy Chairman of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority. His appointment has been approved by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Lt-Gen Aslam, who was General Officer Commanding of the Special Services Group, will replace Lt-Gen Sajjad Akram who will retire on May 1. Incumbent Lahore Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ijaz Ahmad Bakhshi, Mangla Corps Commander Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmad and Director General of Training and Evaluation Lt-Gen Ahsan Azhar Hayat will retire on May 1.

Their successors have already been appointed.
