PESHAWAR, April 11: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Friday dismissed the bail applications of two officials of the Punjab police accused of smuggling arms and narcotics.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Shahjehan Khan observed that the accused were charged with a heinous offence and were not entitled to bail.

Mohammed Shahbaz, an ASI at Kamonki police station, and Constable Ahsanullah were arrested with seven other officials in September by the Akora Khattak police.

They were travelling in an official police vehicle. The arms and narcotics recovered from their possession included 55 Kalashnikovs, 149 pistols, 12 guns, 500 cartridges and two kilograms of Charas.

The other accused were SHO Mohammed Khan, Sub-Inspector Mohammed Afzal and Constables Iqbal, Hassan Mahmood, Chaudhry Mohammed Akram, Riaz Ahmad and Naeem.

The bail applications of these accused were already dismissed by the high court.

Advocates Latif Afridi and Ijaz Khan, who appeared for the two applicants on Friday, argued that the investigation officer had placed their clients in Column 2 of the chargesheet which meant that they were not involved in the offence.
