SUKKUR April 10: Nineteen policemen, including taluka police officer and the SHO, were arrested on Thursday for negligence of duty and display of cowardice during the Kashmor carnage of March 31, in which 14 persons were killed, 18 injured and eight kidnapped.
The arrests were made on the recommendation of the investigation team, headed by the DIG, operation, Larkana, Bachal Sangri, and comprising the DPO, Jacobabad, Din Mohammed Baloch, among others.
The investigation team visited the injured of the incident, who said that the well armed police force of Kashmor town had fled from the scene and took shelter at different places during the indiscriminately firing by the attackers and subsequently the police also had made no efforts to chase the killers.
The arrested policemen, who were locked up in the Guddu police Station, include the TPO, Kashmor, Shabbir Ahmed Khoso, SHO Ali Ahmed Dakhan, ASI Saifuddin, and constable Ghulam Ali, Shafi Mohammad, Ghazi Khan Golo, Naik Mohammad Golo, Bhagio Khan Langah, Abdul Razzaq Shaikh and Noor Mohammad Kalwar.
Further investigation by the police team is in progress.
ROBBERY: A group of robbers broke into the Shiraz Hospital, Sukkur, on Wednesday night, made staff and patients hostage at gunpoint and took away their personal belongings, a TV, some medical equipment and other things.
A month back a motorcycle and personal belongings of a doctor of the same hospital were snatched by some armed bandits.
THREE ARRESTED: Three leaders of the Thull Sweepers Association, Jacobabad, were arrested by the police on Thursday.
Those arrested were identified as Nooral Shaikh, Punoo and Ghulam Qadir.
The arrests were made after talks between the Nazim of the Thall taluka and the sweepers association leaders failed to settle the row over payment of five-month salary to sweepers.
About 150 sweepers of Thul are on strike since a week, protesting against not-payment of their salary.
MEMBERS: Two members of the Naushahro Feroze District Council have slammed the Naib Nazim of the district for suspending their membership for not attending proceedings of the council.
Talking to Dawn on telephone, Dali Pota union council Nazim Ali Sher Khan and Bharti union council Nazim Ahmad Nawaz demanded of the Sindh chief minister and other authorities concerned to take notice of the matter and disqualify Naib Nazim Hussain Ali Shah as he was violating the rules.
LOOTED: A group of bandits barged into the house of Mohammad Riaz here on Wednesday night and looted Rs100,000 in cash, ornaments and other valuables at gunpoint.
