QUETTA, April 10: Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has said that Pakistan is a responsible state and it will perform its international obligations with the world community to maintain peace in the region.

Speaking at the inauguration of a third police reporting centre at the Quaidabad Police Station here on Thursday, the federal minister announced that Pakistan believed in the peaceful co-existence and to combat terrorism the government would continue to cooperate with others countries.

Mr Hayat said that tolerance was must to co-exist with other countries and maintained that lack of tolerance or living in isolation would increase the suffering and miseries of the people.

He further said that Pakistan had developed contacts with the other countries and the basic objective of these links was to maintain peace in the region.

The federal minister observed that rigidity and stubborness in behavior and policies would affect normal and friendly relations with other countries, adding that ground realities would have to be accepted to play a key role in the international community.

While referring to people-police relationship he said the government would continue reforms introduced by the military government to replace the Thana culture to develop police-people friendly relations. He said that in order to fight lawlessness the law-enforcement agencies needed cooperation of all the people.

The federal minister said despite financial constraints the government was very much serious to equip law-enforcement agencies with the latest weapons and added that police could not effectively counter criminals with just old rifles.

Earlier, Balochistan IGP Dr Shoiab Suddle in his welcome speech, emphasized that friendship between police and people was necessary and opening of reporting centers in the city was aimed at restoring the confidence of the people in police as a friend and not a foe.

Provincial ministers, MNAs, Senators, Nazims, representatives of political groups and citizens of the city were present on this occasion.

AL QAEDA: The federal minister said that Pakistan would not allow any organization or agency to use its territory for destabilizing any country.

“We would also not allow such agencies or organizations to destabilize Pakistan,” he said while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.

Responding to a question about operation against Al Qaeda, he dispelled the impression that the government had stopped operation against Al Qaeda due to Iraq war and said Pakistan had not ended operation against terrorists.

“Pakistan is an important ally of international community against terrorism,” he said and added that it had played important role in routing terrorism in the region.

He said Pakistan would strongly and openly take action against all such elements and organizations who wanted to destabilize the country by sitting outside and operating in Pakistan.
