KARACHI, April 10: Karachi Electric Supply Corporation engineers and workers are busy mending power failure complaints and the management is keeping a close watch on the city power supply system round the clock.
This was stated by a KESC spokesman in a press release issued here on Thursday. He said that KESC managing director Brig Tariq Saddozai after taking serious notice of the power failure complaints had alerted the engineers of the transmission and distribution departments.
“Forego personal comforts and attend public complaints during evening hours at the maintenance and complaint centres for speedy repair of local faults,” the MD said.
Till early Thursday morning, KESC MD Brig Tariq Saddozai with the officer-in-charge for distribution, Lt-Col Zahid Hamid, chief engineer in charge of distribution Jamil Gul and other senior officers made surprise checks of the KESC complaint centres at Garden, SITE, Nazimabad, Defence and Clifton areas where the level of complaints was higher than usual.
While taking the newspapers reports as feedback about power supply situation the KESC MD instructed the chief engineers and zonal managers of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, North Nazimabad, Malir, Jinnah Square and Federal B Area to immediately implement systems improvement scheme in these areas. Further, the zonal managers of these areas have also been ordered to meet people to explain to them supply improvement plans of the area, the press release says.
He said the KESC understands the inconvenience due to sudden electricity closure, therefore full emphasis right now was to deploy all available resources to rectify power failure complaints speedily.
However there are situations beyond the control of the KESC such as shortage of power generation, sudden tripping of the extra high-tension lines. Quick resumption of power supply at these times becomes difficult.
The spokesman reiterated that unforeseen faults in the feeders and transformers or untimely shortage of power generation could not be informed in advance.
However, a plan was being prepared by the utility engineers to inform the public about the probability and possibility of timings of the power shut in various areas of the city in case an overloaded power transformer or feeder trips.
