MIRPURKHAS, April 9: Mango crop has been infected by a virus in the district.

The virus attack has led to dropping of unripe fruit.

The agriculture extension department has so far not taken any measure to protect mango orchards.

Some of the affected growers — Abdul Ghani, Barkat, Ahmad Khan Bhurgari and Hashim Panhwar — told this correspondent they could not take preventive measures because the virus had not been identified.

INSANITARY CONDITIONS: The residents of Hameedpura Colony took out a procession here on Wednesday to protest poor sanitary conditions in the area.

They said sewage water had submerged the main roads and streets of the colony.

Led by councillors Abdul Ghani, Usman Qureshi and Saeed Chuttan, the protesters were carrying placards and raising slogans against the Nazim of union council-2 for his apathy towards resolving the problem.

After marching through the main roads, the protesters converged at the office of the taluka municipal administration where they staged a sit-in.

The protesters also staged demonstrations outside the press club and the district Nazim office.

They demanded of the higher authorities concerned to ensure the sewage water was drained out.
