PESHAWAR, April 9: The Pakistan People’s Party on Wednesday demanded scrapping of the Legal Framework Order and election of the president in accordance with the Constitution.

The provincial cabinet of the party, through a resolution, also denounced the US-led attack on Iraq and asked the United Nations Security Council to stop the invasion of Baghdad and resolve the crises through negotiations, a press release said.  

The party’s provincial president Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti presided over the meeting.

It alleged that the government was promoting horse-trading and its political opponents were being victimized in the name of accountability. It said the supporters of President Gen Pervez Musharraf were exempted from accountability. It said cases had been filed against PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari on political grounds.

It demanded that the government should release political prisoners and invite former prime minister Benazir Bhutto to return to the country to  play her role in national politics.

The meeting asked the government to restore services of sacked railways employees in the NWFP as had been done in Punjab and Sindh.

The cabinet appointed Ayub Shah as coordinator of the People’s Lawyers Forum.
