DADU, April 8: Members of the Dadu District Council, at its Tuesday’s session, demanded of the Sindh government to take effective measures for eradicating corruption from the education department.

They also demanded an arrest of the EDO, education, Qamaruddin Farooqui, on charges of corruption, threatening that otherwise they would launch a movement against the “influential officer and his political supporters.”

Khudabad union council Nazim Mohammad Paryal Birhamani, who was also a member of the committee that had conducted an investigation against the EDO, told the session that the EDO had appointed primary teachers despite a ban on recruitment in government departments.

He said that the EDO had violated the Sindh Civil Servants’ Rules by making appointments, promotions and transfers.

He alleged that the high officials of the education department were receiving bribes on monthly basis from the EDO therefore they were not taking action against him.

The Nazim of Tore UC, Nazir Ahmed Leghari, said that millions of rupees were released for school management committees but the funds were embezzled and no furniture was purchased for the schools.

The Nazim, Balishah UC, Rahim Bux said that a team, headed by him and constituted by the district Nazim, had completed the investigation against the EDO and added that an action should be taken against the official on the basis of the investigation report.

Supporting the views of the members, District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar said that he had sent the investigation report with relevant documents to the education authorities.

He said that some high officials were interfering in the matter and no action was not taken against the EDO by the education authorities.

He deplored that the agencies assigned to eradicate corruption were silent on the issue as they had failed to take any action against the EDO.
