PESHAWAR, April 8: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani said on Monday that provision of an improved social services delivery system would continue to remain the top priority of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s government.

Talking to a United Nations Children’s Fund delegation, led by Osama  Makkawi Khogali, he said the government had decided to establish a women’s university and medical college in the province.

He said the government had decided to start postgraduate classes in girls’ degree colleges.

He said that despite Western media’s propaganda that it would restrict women’s participation in education, health and other social  sectors, the MMA government had enacted the right of inheritance to women and banned Swara, a tradition of giving women to settle rivalries.   “We would neither impose our point of view on others nor would we ask people to share our stand on issues, rather we would give rationale to win the support of the people,” he added.

The team offered to expand its activities for child health care in the province.

Provincial ministers for health and local government were also present.
