SALTA The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced a cash award of Rs100,000 for ace drag-flicker Sohail Abbas for accomplishing a rare feat of scoring 300 goals in international hockey.

PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa announced the award at a reception held on Sunday night at the team's hotel in the honour of Sohail for achieving the milestone in hockey.

'He has done us proud and has become the first-ever hockey player in the world to attain a landmark which will be hard to surpass,' said Bajwa who is also the manager of the team which is taking part in the Champions Challenge Cup.

Sohail reached the 300 mark by scoring both the goals in Pakistan's 2-1 win against Canada in the opening match.

Every member of the team led by chief coach, Shahid Ali Khan and assistant coach Shafqat Malik praised the performance of Sohail and termed him a beacon for junior players.

Sohail, in his brief address, thanked PHF for awarding him and vowed to do better till in future matches.—APP
