LAHORE Pakistan's top tennis player, Aisam ul Haq left on Thursday for America to take part in six back to back tournaments, including the US Open.

Aisam, together with Indian Rohan Bopanna, will be appearing only in the doubles of the tournaments, launching his campaign by taking part in the Farmers Classic ATP championship being played from July 26 in Los Angles.

“Playing six tournaments, one after another, is a very demanding task and requires my prime fitness and I am looking forward to it,” said the doubles world number 42 while talking to APP.

He described the American circuit as “challenging” as the world's best players will be taking part in it, especially in the prestigious US Open.

“I am engaged in playing non-stop tennis since the past few months and the month of August is very important for me as I have to defend the points I earned to maintain my present ranking and earn more points to improve it,” he said.

Aisam will feature in the ATP Washington Championship from August 2 at Washington DC. Then he will fly to Canada to participate in the Rogers Cup to be played from August 9 in Toronto.

Flying back to the USA, Aisam will make an appearance in the ATP Masters in Cincinnati from August 16 and then the New Haven ATP Championship from August 23.

His last assignment will be the US Open from August 30 at New York, the real test of his potential and abilities.

“I am aiming to be in the top 20 of the world by the end of this year and I am confident that participation in the North American circuit will help me in achieving this task,” he said.

“Playing in the US open's doubles is a big achievement for me and I want to display my best performance in it to make it a memorable event “he added.

Aisam who is under the coaching of American Robert Davis said he is enjoying prime fitness and form and he believes that he will be able to demonstrate a similar brand of form in the US tournaments.

“Over the four coming weeks I will be playing competitive tennis without a break and I know that my partner will be there to support me and together we will be putting up an improved show,” he said.

After returning from the USA, Aisam will have a two-week break at home and then he will gear up for the Asian Circuit and to represent the Pakistan team in the Commonwealth Games in India in October followed by the Asian Games in China in November. - APP
