RAWALPINDI, April 6: A fire that erupted at Bhara Kahu telephone exchange on Sunday night completely gutted an electric generator plunging the building into darkness, eyewitnesses said.

According to the eyewitnesses, an electric transformer caught fire and the blaze also engulfed another room where the electric generator was installed. The fire completely destroyed the generator and also damaged the building, however no one was injured in the incident, they added.

Raj Mohammad, a watchman on duty, told Dawn that the fire engulfed the generator room where a 100-gallon diesel tank was also lying. Due to the fire, power supply to the area was also disrupted, he added.

The fire fighters and police reached the scene and brought the fire under control in an hour, an eyewitness said.
