KARACHI, July 8 Former Radio Pakistan newscaster Shamim Ejaz died early on Wednesday morning after a protracted illness. She was 85.

She was buried in the Model Colony graveyard, near the airport, in the afternoon.

Soyem will be held after Friday prayers at flat 205, Rahman Plaza, Depot Lines, behind Capri cinema.

Besides others, she was popular with armed forces personnel for her programme Fauji Bhaiyon Kayliye. She also worked for some time in Germany for Deutsche Welle.

Shamim was the sister of Urdu novelist and poet Waheeda Nasim, who died a decade ago. She leaves behind a large circle of friends and admirers belonging to the radio community.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has expressed sorrow over the death of the noted newscaster.

Praising her services, the governor described Shamim Ejaz as a symbol of Radio Pakistan, and said her voice is still fresh in the ears of radio listeners.
