KARACHI, April 5: Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) lauded the services of Mr. Mazhar Jafri, for the promotion of duplicate bridge in Pakistan in particular world over.
He has the honour of being the only Asian to serve as Senior Vice-president of the World Bridge Federation (WBF) besides member of various organizing committee of the WBF.
He is chairman of IOC Liaison Committee, WBF Admission and Zoning Committee, WBF Infrastructure and Development Committee.
To honour Mazhar the PBF held the Super Bowl XIV contest which which was won by Khalid Mohiuddin-Ziaullah Baig who completed the double in winning the contest from North-South position.
Incidentally the victory also gave Khalid hat trick in Super Bowl Series. He had won won this event with Ghufran Ashraf in February, with Zia in March and repeated the performance this month.
Mrs. Rehana Saigol-Samia Rashid occupired the second berth ahead of S.M. Zakaria-Masur Habib.
Sgakeel Chandna and Saleem Ahmed contesting from the other direction left the field the filed far behind to finish first with 68.18 percent. They were followed by Chaudhry Sharif - Asghar Naqvi and Shakeel Saigol-Mrs.G.Qureshi.
Mazhar Jafri was elected in 1998 to the WBF Committee of Honour — the highest lifetime achievement award, conferred on not more than 10 living individuals for their efforts in making a significant contribution for enhancement, promotion and growth of bridge throughout the world.
Bridge trials
National bridge trials to select four teams from Sindh Chapter commenced at Aslam Memorial Hall on Friday, APP adds.
In all 18 teams placed in two houses, Dr Ilyas and Aslam House are featuring in preliminary trials.
After the first day’s rounds, Lipton are leading with 68 Victory Points (VPs). One point adrift is Candyland with 67 followed by Alana 63.
In Aslam House Raees with 57 VPs is on top. Bridge Warriors 54 and Giants 52 Vps are placed second and third.
Top four teams from each house will advance into the final round-robin league played on Sunday.
