ISLAMABAD, April 4: Pakistan and Germany on Friday expressed satisfaction over the current level of cooperation in various fields.

Delegations of the two countries held consultations in Berlin and reviewed the status of bilateral relations, according to a message received here.

Foreign Secretary Riaz H. Khokhar led the Pakistani side while State Secretary Juergen Chrobog led the German team, says a message received here.

They also covered in their discussions the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and South Asia.

The two sides, while expressing satisfaction over the ongoing cooperation, stressed that this should be further enhanced in such fields as trade, education, and science and technology.

They agreed to cooperate closely with each other at the UN Security Council on the Iraq issue, and said the foremost priority at this stage was to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Iraq.

Mr Chrobog praised Pakistan’s role in the fight against international terrorism.

Both the sides shared their assessment on the situation obtaining in Afghanistan.

It was agreed on both sides that a normalization in Pakistan-India relations was essential to ease tensions in South Asia.

The next round of talks will be held in Islamabad. —APP
