Benazir Bhutto`s photos exhibited

KARACHI, Oct 23 A photographic exhibition on the life of Benazir Bhutto was held at a local hotel on Saturday. The exhibition showcased the works of Agha Feroz.

The exhibition had hundreds of colour and black-and-white pictures depicting different time periods of Benazir Bhutto's life, along with her photographs taken with a variety of politicians, friends and family members.

One of the first pictures that were on display (on the right of the entrance) was Benazir Bhutto presenting a copy of the Holy Quran to MQM chief Altaf Husain in 1988.

Alongside it were her historic photographs with George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela. But it was probably a black-and-white close-up shot taken in 1994 that captured and described the aesthetics of the art of photography as well as the charisma and beauty of the late politician best. It's a simple picture but with clear features and outlines.

A similar photo, again black and white and taken in 1984, which had the youthfulness and energy that Benazir always exuded, was also liked by viewers.

Though some of Agha Feroz's work had already been seen many a time through different sources, there were a few snaps related to the terrible events of Oct 18, 2007 that caught the eye.

You could see different grabs of that ill-fated day, ranging from the time when Benazir Bhutto's convoy was on Sharea Faisal to the point after the blast ripped through the huge procession.

One particular image taken from the top of the vehicle on which Benazir Bhutto and her party members were perched waving to the camera was brilliant. Also worth noticing were the photos that showed the mayhem caused by the explosions afterwards.

Then there were pieces that had emotional appeal - Benazir Bhutto praying while descending from the plane in Karachi in 2007; the late prime minister with her children; young Sanam and Benazir Bhutto with their father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, etc. And last but not least the simple but beautiful black-and-white images taken in 70 Clifton of Benazir and her family had tremendous nostalgic lure.

The event was sponsored by the Pakistan International Airlines.
