HYDERABAD, March 2 The University of Sindh on Monday decided to introduce semester system from next academic session in five postgraduate colleges affiliated with the university.

The decision was taken at a meeting of post annual examination presided over by vice-chancellor Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui. The meeting decided that in the first phase, semester system would be introduced in the Government Sachal Sarmast Arts and Commerce College, Government Girls Zubeda College, Government Shah Latif Girls College Latifabad and Government Boys College Kali Mori.

The meeting took the decision to pay frequent visits to affiliated colleges to monitor facilities as well as attendance of students and decided to start fresh registration in BA pass (Part-I, II) and MA (Previous, Final) for annual examination 2009 from March 16.

The meeting considered problem of shortage of teachers in colleges and decided to convene a meeting with provincial minister and secretary education Sindh in this regard.

Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, M. Saleh Rajar, Prof Abdul Salam Khoja, Prof Liaquat Aziz Solangi, Dr Pervez Pathan, Dr Abida Tahirani, Dr Yasmin Iqbal and Prof Iqbal Kazi attended the meeting, which offered fateha for Prof Riaz Ahsan and Dr Asghar Bhutto.

VC Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui visited Liaquat Medical University hospital, Jamshoro on Monday and inquired after the health of injured university employees.

He assured them that the university would take well care of them. Registrar M. Saleh Rajar and In-charge transport Prof Agha Riaz Hassan accompanied the VC.

MNA The DCO Jamshoro is directed to conduct a survey and prepare a master plan for villages in Sehwan taluka deprived of educational, health, electricity and clean water facilities. The survey would be presented before the federal government for some special grant.

PPP leader and MNA from Jamshoro district, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur said this during an open katchehry at Jhangara Bajara, taluka Sehwan on Sunday.

People of rural areas were still living in medieval ages he said calling upon the government to enhance funds of the MNAs elected for the development of far flung villages.

Manchhar lake was the biggest sweet water lake in Asia which had been destroyed with thousands of acres in six UCs of Sehwan taluka rendered barren he said adding that some 40,000 fishermen living in and around the lake were leading a miserable life.

He called for a proper planning for Manchhar lake rehabilitation and added that he will invite Prime Minister to Sehwan.

He urged the Pak Arab Refinery (PARCO) and ENI to provide jobs to local people. He called upon the RPO Hyderabad to appoint competent police officers in the area for improving law and order situation.

The MNA also inaugurated two new gas supply schemes in Pakka Channa and Shekh Sehta of taluka Sehwan.
