HYDERABAD, April 15 Languages were the messengers of love and they played a vital role in bringing people together, Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said on Wednesday at the inauguration of a Sindhi-Urdu conversation programme titled “Let us learn Sindhi”.

It was the duty of the people of Hyderabad and Sindh to learn Sindhi language, the district nazim said and added that such efforts would go a long way in motivating people to learn Sindhi. The Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Hyderabad, organised the programme.

He lauded the efforts of the Radio Pakistan and language authority for introducing this programme and added that it had achieved new dimensions due to SLA chairperson Dr Fehmida Hussain, who has also initiated a Sindhi language course.

He said the district government had directed all the district government departments to attend the course. Those who could not afford the course fee, the district government would pay their tuition fees on the recommendations of the SLA, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Hyderabad station Director of Radio Pakistan Naseer Baig Mirza acknowledged the services of the district nazim for launching a beautification programme, saying that he had not forgotten the Holmstead hall, from where Radio Pakistan Hyderabad had started its journey in 1955, in this regard.

He also paid glowing tributes to a former Urdu-speaking director of Radio Pakistan, late Dr Ilyas Ishqi, for promoting Sindhi literature.

Dr Fehmida Hussain, SLA secretary Taj Joyo, Mehmood Siddiqui, Ishrat Ali Khan and others also spoke on the occasion.
