HYDERABAD, March 27 District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has expressed displeasure over slow pace of work on development and beautification schemes in the city and directed the authorities concerned to hand over the works being carried out by lethargic contractors to other contractors to complete the schemes within the stipulated period.

Speaking at a meeting at his secretariat, he said that the work should be continued round the clock in different shifts. The meeting was held to review the pace of work on different development schemes, including those of roads, buildings for education and health facilities and beautification programme.

He directed the officials concerned to approach relevant departments to remove bottlenecks and said that monuments should be installed at Qila Chowk, Qasimabad, Jail Road, Koh-i-Noor Chowk and other central places to make the city beautiful.

District focal person for education Q. Mohammad Hakim, the chairmen of the district works and services and beautification committees, EDO of works, DO of buildings and other officers of the district government attended the meeting.

RECOVERY The district nazim has expressed concern over slow pace of recovery of water bills and directed Wasa officials to recover the bills from the consumers.

He issued these instructions at a meeting of Water and Sanitation Agency officials at his secretariat.

He said that final notices should be issued to the defaulters, both bulk and domestic consumers, and if the bills were not paid within the notice period, their water supply should be disconnected.

He regretted that the recovery of water dues was very poor and warned of strict action against delinquent officers.

AWARD The district nazim gave a reward of Rs50,000 and a commendatory certificate to Ms Saeeda Amama on behalf of the district government for securing first position at a national Naat competition.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Ms Amama had brought honours to the city by securing first position in the competition.

LAW AND ORDER Expressing concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the city, the district nazim directed police to launch a crackdown against criminals.

He condemned the torching of the car of Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani by miscreants.

He said that no one would be allowed to disturb peaceful atmosphere of the city and warned that miscreants would have no place to hide.
