SIALKOT, April 3: Federal Industries and Production minister Liaqat Ali Jatoi said on Thursday the country would soon come out of economic crisis that had been caused by the US-led invasion on Iraq.
Speaking to newsmen at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the minister hoped that the import and exports of Pakistan would return to normality.
During his talk to the businessmen, he said the government had planned to introduce ‘one desk operation’ in the country to solve the traders’ problems related to taxes. Besides, an investors desk would be established at Pakistan’s international airports to facilitate national and foreign investors.
The federal minister said the Japan Trade Organization had offered the government funds to establish 25 training institutes here.
Announcing special incentives to the businessmen, he said the government was committed to inject a new life into the country’s sick economy. He said the ministry of industries and production had established an advisory committee in which the businessmen would be given due representation. The presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry would be the committees’ members, he added.
SCCI President Babar Iqbal said on the occasion that the local industry was is jeopardy, as overall exports had been affected after Sept 11, 2001. “We need government’s support to go through the crisis,” he said.
Earlier, the industries minister met exporters at the Sialkot Dryport in Sambrial (Daska), and assured them that the government would bring foreign investment. He added that special trade and long-term export policies for reviving the cottage industries were on the cards.
