PESHAWAR, Dec 3: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the present government has allocated a major portion of its resources to strengthen secondary health care at the district level.

He said this at a meeting with the district health officers held here on Sunday.

Mr Iftikhar said that the projects to be initiated in all the districts of the province would ensure an efficient health delivery system. He urged doctors to do justice with their responsibilities towards the service of ailing humanity.

The governor said that like education department, district cadre for the officials of health department was being introduced, besides the formation of health management committees at the district level to supervise the affairs of health department.

These committees to be constituted by the respective district governments would have the power to make recruitments, transfers and postings of the health staff at the district level.

A committee being headed by the secretary of local government department and comprising four district Nazims would suggest ways and means and make modalities for the new health policy. The future steps would be taken in the light of the recommendations of the committee, he added.
