SWABI, March 31: The local administration and Pesco staff have failed to find any clue to the unidentified thieves who stole six electricity transformers from different areas of the district.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that the Pesco officials had lodged FIRs against some unknown culprits in the respective police stations, but no practical steps were taken in this connection.

The transformers— two of 25kv and four of 50kv— were stolen from Mutabar Banda, Turlandi, Turlandi Maira, Sorara, Dastee Baba and Kulalo Adina.

Official sources said that in the last six years, many transformers had been stolen from various localities where consumers were forced to pay for new installations. Usually, they added, thieves took away costly parts and other things from the transformers and left empty boxes.

The incidents made it clear that an organized group was involved in stealing the transformers, the sources said, adding that it could not be ruled out that some Pesco officials were also involved because the dismantling of a transformer was not an easy task.

They said that all the theft incidents took place in the far-flung areas and small villages and the stolen transformers and their parts were sold in the tribal areas.
