MITHI, March 29: The Tharparkar District Council has demanded of the government to spend royalty of Thar coal and other minerals on infrastructure development in the district.

In a resolution passed by the council the other day, the members said people who were displaced in the process should be compensated.

Moving the resolution, Mohammad Jamil Rajar said the government had taken a number of steps to continue the exploration of coal and other minerals but measures to rehabilitate the displaced people had not been taken.

The members said relevant quarters should be moved to devise an appropriate policy in this regard.

Jamil Rajpar, moving another motion, pointed out that after the construction of metalled roads, some people had encroached on plots in different towns of the district.

The members urged convener Ramsingh Sodho to apprise the district Nazim and the district administration of the situation so that a policy could be formulated to regularize kutchi abadis.
