PESHAWAR, March 27: Federal Education Minister Zubaida Jalal on Wednesday said the government had allocated Rs250 million to provide computers for seminaries throughout the country.

Speaking at the concluding session of a workshop on the “NWFP Education Policy and Strategy”, she said the government had discussed the need of funds for education sector with NORAD, a Norwegian agency, which pledged Rs350 million for the construction of girls primary schools in Fata.

The minister said Germany had also pledged to divert all the debt owed to government of Pakistan towards education sector, especially of the NWFP.

Teaching, she said, would be made professional and competitive to attract highly-qualified persons towards primary education.

She criticised the outdated curriculum taught at the school level and said it needed to be revised and for the purpose a consultative process would be started soon.

The education minister told the gathering that a national curriculum had been devised for public schools so that students all over the country would face no problems due to change of syllabus.

NWFP Education Minister Maulana Fazli Ali gave details about the provincial government policy on education. He said the MMA government regarded imparting education a religious duty.

The minister assured her that the NWFP government would provide all facilities to education sector.
