PESHAWAR, March 26: A demonstration to denounce the US-led war on Iraq was held on Wednesday in front of the press club.

The Citizens’s Network against War in Iraq held a peace procession under the auspices of Aurat Foundation.

The activists of various organizations gathered in front of the press club from where they marched up to the Governor’s House.

The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with different slogans: “Say yes to peace, no to war”, “don’t shed blood for oil”, “don’t kill civilians”, “stop war”.

A joint declaration, condemning the US-led attack against Iraq, was also issued on the occasion.

The marchers condemned the US pronounced “doctrine of pre- emptive strike”, stating that it would lead the world to violence and any country could attack any sovereign state following the same footsteps.

They said that the weapons of mass destruction were in fact possessed by the US and its allies and the week long war clearly proved that the actual threat to world peace was from America and not from Iraq.

The declaration asked the United Nations to try President Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in the Hague International Criminal Court for war crimes they had committed in Iraq.

They also asked the members of the UN Security Council to forthwith convene an emergency meeting and pressurize the US and UK to forthwith withdraw troops from Iraq and stop bombing civilians.

The protesters dispersed peacefully near the press club.
