ISLAMABAD, July 2 The National Disaster Management Authority plans to organise a tsunami evacuation drill in Gwadar to create awareness about the calamity and test the effectiveness of safety procedures.

The exercise to be held in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority of Gwadar is in response to a met office report that the coastal areas of Balochistan and Sindh faced tsunami threats.

According to the NDMA, the report says the coastal areas face a tsunami threat on July 7 because of seismic activities in the region and the historical record of the calamity in the areas.

It said that a tsunami which hit the Balochistan coast in 1945 killed about 4,000 people.
