HYDERABAD Power riots broke out in several parts of the city on Monday as people lost patience after suffering from prolonged power breakdowns since Sunday morning.

Protesters blocked roads at six places by burning tyres. They surrounded a Hesco's sub-division office in Latifabad to give vent to their anger against power utility's performance.

Residents of blocks B and D of Latifabad unit-10 blocked Shaydaaiyan-i-Rasool chowk. They claimed that there was no power supply in their areas since Sunday evening, when it started raining.

People living along the Risala Road and near old Rahat Cinema also came out on road and blocked it, causing a huge traffic jam because it was the main artery connecting different areas.

Till filing of this report, their protest continued against non-supply of electricity.

Another protest was held by the residents of Latifabad unit-12 against non-supply of power whereas the residents of Gharibabad protested against power outage of 48 hours. It was not restored till Sunday evening.

Shopkeepers of Tyre Market and Qadam Gah-i-Maula Ali also burnt tyres at Kohinoor Chowk against electricity breakdown in their area. Residents surrounded Umed Ali sub-division Latifabad unit-2, raising slogans against Hesco.
