ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: Acting Jamaat-i-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan on Sunday said President Gen Pervez Musharraf should immediately open a dialogue with politicians for steering the country out of the quagmire that had resulted from his wrong policies.

Speaking at an Iftar party here on Sunday, the JI leader said this was not a time to fix responsibility for the humiliation the country had faced due to the misguided policy of the president on the Afghan issue. It was however certainly time for soul- searching and consultations on the future course of action, he added.

He said it was the responsibility of armed forces to take all steps for the safeguard of the country’s supreme interests in the wake of the uncertainty that had befallen it due to the Afghan imbroglio.

Mr Hasan demanded of the president to immediately contact the Americans and get a timeframe for the evacuation of Pakistani air bases. As long as that was not done, the people would continue to feel insecure, he added. — Staff Reporter
