GILGIT, Nov 17 The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday announced the schedule of re-polling on four polling stations of LA-3, Gilgit-III. Re-polling on four polling stations of Gilgit-III would be held on Wednesday for which all arrangements had been finalised, the commission said.

The administration has made elaborated security measures to avoid any untoward incident during the re-polling.

According to the EC the re-polling would be held in Oshkhandas and Jalalabad areas, where complaints of rigging had been received.

However, the election commission said that re-polling in LA-17, Diamer-III would be held later for which schedule would be issued accordingly.

Meanwhile, the MQM, PML-Q and other independent candidates have announced to boycott the re-polling.

Accusing ruling party of 'massive' rigging in polls MQM, PML-Q and independent candidates said that they would not take part in re-election.

ENERGY COMPANY The government of Gilgit-Baltistan is working actively to establish an energy development company which would work to harness the huge energy potential and capacity of producing more than 40,000 megawatt hydro-electricity.

An official of GB Water and Power Department, Naz Akbar told Dawn that PC-II of the said project had been approved by the competent forum and now the implementation phase of the project was to be carried out.

He said the company would enjoy complete independence to plan, identify and implement the hydro-power projects in the region.

Mr Akbar admitted that due to lack of manpower, expertise and inadequate resources the Water and Power Department was unable to generate the required electricity, adding, the government decided to set up the new company which would also have its own modalities, by-laws, procedures, rules and regulations to run the system.

Currently, he said, feasibility of the project was being carried out by a hired consultant.
