LAHORE, March 23: The annual Urs of Hazrat Madho Lal Husain, popularly known as Mela Chiraghan, will begin here from March 29.
The Urs of Hazrat Madho Lal Husain is known as Mela Chiraghan (festival of the lamps), because the devotees of the saint pay homage to him by burning lamps at his shrine near the historic Shalimar Gardens in Baghbanpura.
Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif of the Lahore High Court and Punjab Minister for Tourism Mian Aslam Iqbal will formally inaugurate the Urs celebrations. They would perform the traditional chaddar-laying-ceremony at the shrine of Hazrat Madho Lal Husain.
MPAs Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Gujjar and Begum Bushra Rahman will lay chaddars at the shrine on March 30 and 31 respectively.
The Punjab Auqaf Department will organize mahafil-i-samaa and meetings highlighting various aspects of the life of Hazrat Madho Lal Husain during the three-day celebrations.
