ISLAMABAD, March 22: The Pakistan tennis selectors on Saturday named promising youngster Inam Gul on a new-look Davis Cup team that will play Japan in the Asia Oceania Group I playoff next month.

The selectors who met at the PTF Complex for about an hour also picked Shahzad Khan and Shahzad Samad Khan along with Aqeel Khan with Muhammad Khalid chosen as the non-playing captain. Rao Iftikhar will be the manager, officials said.

Earlier Hameedul Haq was to proceed as the non-playing captain but decided not to go because of pressing personal commitments.

The team does not include Aisamul Haq, who had opted out this week saying he was not fit enough while two other senior players Asim Shafik and Nomi Qamar had not been invited to the Davis Cup camp.

The Cup tie runs between April 4 and 6 in the Japanese city of Toyota.
