ABBOTTABAD, Oct 22 Two renowned poets of the Hazara division, Bashir Ahmed Soz and Sultan Sakoon, are among winners of “Abasin Literary Award for the Year 2008” for their work on Hindko poetry.

A press release issued by the Abasin Arts Council, Peshawar, here on Thursday said Khalid Tirmizi will receive the award for his contribution in the music field. Every year, the council announces different wards in poetry, drama and painting categories.

The books selected for awards have been written by Nasir Ali Syed (Abdur Rab Nishtar Award), Arbab Abdul Wakeel (Allah Baksh Yousfi Award), Bashir Ahmed Soz (Justice Kiyani Award), Liaq Zada Liaq (Rehman Baba Award), Arbab Wakeel for Pashto poetry (Khushal Khan Khattak Award), Tariq Mehmood Danish ( Mulana Abdul Qadir Award) and Sultan Sakoon (Saeen Ahmed Ali Award).

Prof Nasir Ali Syed, Prof Mohammad Rafiq, Mohammad Zahoor (cartoonist), Khalid Tirmizi and Faza Fayaz have been declared winners of Bank of Khyber Award.

SUGAR CRISIS Shortage of sugar has been reported in different parts of Galyats, especially in Ayubia.

Local people have demanded that the district food department and officials of the Utility Stores Corporation should ensure availability of sugar at government rates as currently sugar is being sold in the open market at Rs80 per kilogramme.

MEDICAL CAMP The Women Medical College, Abbottabad, and an NGO, Sawera, organised a free medical camp in the Palak Union council here the other day where more than 1,000 patients were treated.

The patients were treated by ENT, gynae, medical and surgical specialists and other doctors. Medical students and paramedical staff also provided treatment to patients.
