HYDERABAD, March 19: Former Sindh Governor Moinuddin Haider on Tuesday distributed Rs400,000 among heirs of people who died during the recent heavy rain.

He also gave Rs50,000 to a girl of the Hali Road area whose dowry was destroyed due to the rain.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Haider said some problems were being faced in the new devolution system but expressed the hope the bottlenecks would be removed in due course of time.

The former federal interior minister said elected representatives of people should make joint efforts to resolve problems of people.

District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman said no differences existed between district and Sindh governments.

However, there was some confusion regarding distribution of powers among district Nazims and assembly members which should be removed, he added.

He said the survey of damages caused due to the rain had been completed.

The Nazim said Rs20,000 would be paid as compensation to people whose houses were completely destroyed and to those whose houses were partially damaged, Rs10,000 would be paid within next few days.

The EDO, revenue, Shakil Haider Naqvi, in his briefing, said due to the heavy rain, five persons died and 100 houses were damaged in the district.

He said Rs5 million had been received from the Sindh government for relief work in the district and payment of compensation to rain-affected people.
