Minister fined for water theft

SAHIWAL, March 18: The federal minister for petroleum and natural resources along with some other farmers has been fined by irrigation authorities for water theft.

The minister and the farmers have, however, got a stay from the court of senior civil judge against the penalty till May 2.

The irrigation authorities of Lower Bari Doab Canal alleged that the minister and the other farmers indulged in water theft by breaking the outlet on 4-R distributary.

A fine of Rs121,385 was imposed on the minister and others by the irrigation authorities. They filed an appeal with the LBDC deputy collector, but it was rejected.

When the irrigation authorities took action against the minister and others, they got a stay order from the court.

BAIL GRANTED: An assistance sub-inspector was bailed out by the special judge, Anti-Corruption Establishment, Multan, camp at Sahiwal, on Tuesday.

Lahore Township police ASI Mohammed Shafi and three other constables were arrested red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs50,000 from a showroom owner, Munir, on March 4.

JAMAAT: The Jamaat-i-Islami will observe ‘Ashra-i-Tahaffaz-i-Ummat’ from March 20 to 30 to promote unity among the people of the Punjab.

This was stated by JI spokesman Iqbal Wajid here on Tuesday.
